RANGE: Grasslands, crop fields, wetlands, lakes, rivers, and ponds throughout New Zealand.
HABITAT:Large , shallow, inland waters with lush vegetation offering a plentiful food supply.
GENERAL INFO: They are peaceful ducks and they can live easily with the other ducks. They are also winter-hardy but they need always fresh water.
DESCRIPTION:Male - The male Paradise Shelduck has a blackish head with greenish gloss, finely-barred dark-grey or blackish body, black rump and uppertail, white coverts, blackish flight feathers, secondaries are glossy-green, tertials are chestnut coloured, underparts are brown, black undertail, dark-grey beak, brown eyes, and legs and feet are blackish.
Female - The female has a white head and neck, and chestnut body. AVAIRY POSITION:Well planted 12m2 avairy with a pond.
FEEDING: Corn, wheat, oats, rye, millet, milo , stale bread, potatoe, greens and pellet feeds.
BREEDING AGE: Second year.
BREEDING SEASON: March.
NUMBER OF EGGS IN A YEAR: 5-10 eggs.
INCUBATION PERIOD: 28 days.
